Thai Herbal Massage....Luk Pra-Kob

Particularly in northern Thailand, herbal massage is a traditional part of Nuad Bo-Rarn.

As in many indigenous cultures around the world, local plants were historically used for their medicinal qualities. This remains true in Thailand today. Herbal medicine can be a complex field of study requiring many years of tenure with accomplished masters. Fortunately, there are excellent books on Thai herbal medicine available, from simple texts explaining how to make and use herbal compresses, to lengthier treaties exploring many of the herbal variations and traditional medicine practices used throughout Thailand.

In ITM's herbal classes, traditional medicinal herbs from Thailand (along with some indigenous healing herbs from the Americas) are wrapped in a cotton cloth, tied into a bundle, moistened with steam, and applied over the client's clothing. They are wonderful used during a traditional Thai massage, or as an added bonus with a 'regular' massage, being placed on specific parts of the body that need special attention.

We use a powerful combination of over 20 herbs and flowers that are sent to us directly from Thailand, with local herbs added as the seasons allow. Some of the herbs and flowers include lemongrass, lime, eucalyptus, ginger, turmeric, camphor, and cinnamon, along with other healing herbs from the Americas, such as rosemary, thyme, sage, basil, mint, chamomile, and laurel.

The warm herbal packs induce deep states of relaxation and enhance the therapeutic benefits of any massage. The healing aromas fill the room to benefit both the giver and receiver. Recipients immediately relax into the soothing aromas and warm compresses. The warmed tissue is more receptive to massage, allowing deeper benefits.

ITM has created a unique blend and each herbal pack is hand-made. Check our Store to see if we have loose herbs or Herbal Packs currently in stock, or use the link below to find upcoming Herbal Compress classes.
